Happy New Year!

Dear Diary,

Well, it's the first day of 2017 and it's starting out just like every other Jan 1.  I am recovering from staying up too late and I have a headache.  These ramifications in my earlier years were likely due to going out to a small party and possibly drinking a little too much.  I was never into big parties or drinking much.  Drinking always made me sleepy or gave me a headache.  What fun is that?

I guess I could categorize last night's festivities as a "small party," but that would be stretching the truth.  I spent most of the day doing things I wanted to complete before the end of the year (like getting my blog configured), but spent the late afternoon and evening with my family in our quiet home.  My daughter and I had a dance party, wherein she intermingled fast-paced dance moves with daring gymnastics.  For a time, I thought I may not live to ring in the new year with the number of times my heart skipped a beat.  (I'm happy to report, she didn't break anything and I made it to see another day.)  After our dance party, we sipped sparking grape juice out of wine glasses (yes, even my glass was filled with the bubbly, non-alcoholic beverage) while watching some NYE TV shows.  My daughter enjoyed watching the various musical performances.  The bad news...she pooped out around 10:30pm (all that activity likely wore her out).  The good news...she missed Mariah Carey's, er...performance.  (Can I just say that Mariah has/had an amazing voice.  Her music blared from my stereo and portable CD player during much of my adolescence.  I was actually looking forward to reminiscing and sharing my joy of Mariah's talent with my daughter.)  Back to my night...I watched the ball drop, sent a few texts, and then it was lights out for me.  I suppose some would consider this lame.  However, given I had only received two to three hours of sleep the night before, I was pretty impressed with myself.  And overall, I really enjoyed the day.

As I sit here today contemplating the new year, I have lots of things I want to do, like get healthier, read more, meditate more regularly (even if it's only for a few minutes a day), follow more intently some really interesting folks (I mean actually read their blog posts/emails and LEARN from them), spend more time with friends, build my business, and more.  I could go on and on.  So, I've decided I'll do some mind mapping to really hone in on my goals and priorities for the year.  I may also complete a vision board - maybe one for 2017 and another for longer-term plans.

In the past, I'd make resolutions to attain all those things.  But, my attempts usually whimpered out after a few weeks and life just returned to its normal, prior year flow.  So, this year will be different.  Instead of making a resolution, I'm going to actually define my plans and assess priorities.

My action plan to complete by Friday:

  1. Complete mind mapping exercise.
  2. Compile old magazines, newspapers, and other crafts to make my vision board(s).

I'm excited about this!  I'm open to what may come. :)
