Welcome to my first Family Friday!
Come on! For those of you that know me, is this a shocker? You know family is like the MOST IMPORTANT THING in my life and that I usually reserve Friday nights and Saturdays for family-related events. Keeping with the idea of identifying themes for each day of the week that align with what I WANT in my life, this is perfect!
My idea for Family Friday topics include writing about anything family-related that's got my focus that week. It'll likely be about parenting, but could also be review of a family-friendly movie or event or similar. We'll see. We've only got 11 of them, including this one! We'll all find out together!
What's on my mind today? The beauty of surprises.
Surprises are such a nice way to let family and friends know we love and care about them. We often hear about surprise birthday parties, or being surprised by a pregnancy announcement, or similar. They can be simple or elaborate, big or small. Regardless, they usually make the recipient feel special and acknowledged!
Our family loves run-of-the-mill day surprises. My daughter ran in her school's fun run today. She knew that I'd be there and believed that her father couldn't make it. She was disappointed that he couldn't attend too.
As soon as she saw him today, her face lit up like a Christmas tree! She couldn't get the smile off her face! We then surprised her by taking her home from school early and letting her eat ice cream for dinner. (She ran her little heart out for her school today. We thought it would be a fun way to give something back to her.)
My daughter loves surprises. She loved the attention. She was delighted that both her parents made time to come and cheer her on. Departing school early is ALWAYS special, as is getting to eat ice cream for dinner.
I can't end this post without thanking ALL our family and friends that pledged money to my daughter's fun run! Not only did you contribute to the school's ability to update smart boards, you also conveyed your support and trust in my daughter to do her part to earn funds for the school.
Thank you. Much love!
Be open to what comes.
