I watched a short today on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday website. It was of Kidada Jones' life-long dream to have a "school" for girls that told them about life. She didn't do well in school growing up and was always interested in self-development, learning about herself and how to go about the world.
Watching this video gave me goose bumps. I want to help women and girls do the same. I meet so many women who go through the motions in life. They don't know their own stories. They don't know what they value, or at least how to articulate it. They often feel like a victim to the chaos that surrounds us. We can teach our children to behave the same if we're not mindful.
I love that Kidada is teaching young girls to be mindful, to be aware of their narratives and choose powerful, kind rather than negative, self-deprecating ones.
Hearing the girls talk about how calm they felt after meditation made me realize how much I miss it. I must make time for it. It really is an awesome tool that connects me to center like nothing else.
I hope you make time to watch the video, and hopefully make time for yourself to be awake.
Be open to what comes.
