Wellness Wednesday: Keto

Hello everyone.  Happy Wellness Wednesday!

I know at least two people who are on a 'keto' diet to lose weight.  I had never heard of it and inquired a bit more.  'Keto' is short for ketogenic and it's a strict diet that increases the fats in the diet over carbs.  It seems to me that the diet is much like Atkins.  I have another friend on a diet that has pre-packaged foods and a coach.

I have been overweight since I was six years old.  I've tried all kinds of diets.  I did Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, the cabbage soup diet, and countless others.  I KNOW that restrictive diets don't work for me.  Let me rephrase.  They worked.  I lost weight, but I gained it all back and then some when I flirted with returning to a 'normal' diet.  The only thing that worked for me was counting calories.  While I'm not counting calories this time, I am increasing my whole foods and significantly reducing processed foods.

My friends are losing weight faster than I am.  One on hand, I'm so jealous.  I wish I were losing weight at the rate they are.  On the other hand, I'm scared for them.  My past experiences with restrictive diets NEVER, EVER had much sticking power.

I am hopeful that my friends and I will reach our health goals, regardless of the paths we choose.  We all support each other in our efforts, and that's what matters most.
