I just spent a good part of the day spending time with family and trying to do good for others. I got a cake to take into work tomorrow to celebrate a co-worker's birthday. I also went and picked up a donation for the silent auction I'm chairing for my daughter's school. It was a good day, until I came home. Come to find out there's been yet another mass shooting, this time at a church in San Antonio, TX.
My heart is aching...
I pray for all those killed, injured and otherwise affected by this event. It is unspeakable. I cannot imagine being in a place of worship and having someone come in and take aim at me. No place is acceptable, but places of worship are sacred. I will pray for peace for those departed and comfort for those affected, hurting, and grieving.
There are many angry and sick people in the world. I honestly don't feel that people become evil to become evil. I believe they are either born with a deficiency to empathize or choose to adopt a mindset/position that is hurtful to others because they feel threatened in some way.
I don't think this country does enough to support those that need emotional support. Whether offering support to those suffering with mental illness, or providing techniques/methods for dealing with intense emotions to the masses, I believe those offerings could start to make a difference in our society.
I'm doing my part. I'm taking steps to be conscious of my own emotions and responses, as evidenced by this year-long project. I'm seeking ways in which to donate/offer my life coaching services to those in need. I'm also trying my best to support my child's healthy adoption of emotional awareness and effective responses.
Please say a prayer for all those affected, not from just today's tragedy, but from them all. And if there's a way you think you can help, please do. We need everyone's help.
Be open to what comes.
