While I typically use Tackle-It Tuesdays to discuss planning and taking action on things that are important to me—to ensure I'm working toward my goals—today, I want to broaden the scope a bit. I want to touch on the topics of persistence and growth.
My daughter is persistent as all get out with various physical activities, such as conquering monkey bars, gymnastics training, and more. I love to see her drive and sheer determination to reach a goal.
Persistence cannot be overlooked when it comes to reaching our goals. If we want something bad enough, we gotta keep working at it.
It's equally necessary to discuss growth. We cannot change and accomplish new things if we're too scared to move out of our comfort zone.
I engaged in a conversation yesterday with a fellow school parent about my volunteer efforts and the need for someone to assume the job for the next school year. This parent was interested in taking on the job BECAUSE it would challenge him...BECAUSE it was something in which he lacked experience.
Think about that for a second.
How willing are you to take on a challenge? To try something you know little or even nothing about? Odds are slim. Most of us are so comfortable where we are that we endure a substandard, possibly even a miserable life, because the unknown is too scary.
And here's this guy saying the exact opposite. He invited challenge in. How cool is that?
Challenging yourself, displaying persistence, and actually working toward your goals can result in significant growth and amazing opportunities.
What will you choose to tackle?
Be open to what comes.
